During a United Nations meeting in New York on 23 September 2026, Rob Jetten highlighted the importance of international cooperation in ocean observation. Through European initiatives, the Netherlands is contributing to the further strengthening of the global system for monitoring seas and oceans.

The Dutch contribution supports innovative developments within the worldwide ocean observation network and builds on existing international collaborations in marine monitoring. In doing so, the Netherlands helps expand our understanding of ocean health and provides greater insight into changes taking place at sea.

For Rijkswaterstaat, and especially for the Digital transformation of Ecological Monitoring (DEM) project, this international recognition is a valuable acknowledgement of the importance of this work and of the role the Netherlands plays in advancing the future of ocean observation.
